SPEARHEAD BREWING CO. PROUDLY ANNOUNCES THE LAUNCH OF THEIR NEWEST BEER, QUEEN OF WHEAT IN TIME FOR PRIDE MONTH

A portion of the proceeds will go to the Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity

May 25, 2021 – (Kingston, Ontario) – Spearhead Brewing Co. is proud to launch their newest beer, Queen of Wheat. The Kingston-based craft beer company is joining forces with activist and drag performer Rowena Whey and The Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity (CCGSD) to offer a portion of the proceeds from sales of each case to support CCGSD’s education efforts. The beer is available in Ontario starting today in advance of Pride month.

Queen of Wheat is a classic Belgian-style white beer brewed with hints of succulent peach and generous amounts of soft Canadian wheat to create a smooth mouthfeel. The noble hops and wheat yeast give a zesty, citrusy fruitiness with floral and spicy aromatics. One sip will have beer lovers saying “Yas, Queen!”

“The new beer was created in celebration of diversity, inclusion and love,” said Josh Hayter, president of Spearhead Brewing Company. “We admire the work that Rowena Whey and the CCGSD are doing for the LGBT+ community, and we’re honoured to play a small role in supporting their important education efforts in the way we do best – beer!“

In February 2020, Spearhead had the privilege of hosting a Valentine’s Day event called Love’s A Drag, featuring Rowena Whey. Seated among the guests in the front row were a couple of teenagers whose parents brought them out to the show. This performance helped them understand that they can be who they are without fear or shame.

“The amazing feeling of seeing them interacting with the performers and their obvious joy and freedom is something that will never leave me,” said Hayter.

The CCGSD works to empower gender and sexually diverse communities through education, research and advocacy. Campaigns and programs include: Intersex Rights, Stop HIV/AIDS Stigma, The Pink Agenda, No Conversion Canada, Queer History, Commemorate Canada, Intimate Partner Violence Prevention Program and Comprehensive Sexual Education. For every case sold, $4 goes back to the CCGSD to support education efforts.

“We’re really excited for this Queen of Wheat partnership with Spearhead Brewery! The support of local businesses, and their dedication to celebrating diversity, means a lot to us. Our work delivering workshops on inclusion to youth, students and educators has been severely impacted by the COVID-19 global pandemic. With this partnership, we will be able to adapt our work digitally, continue to reach the communities we serve, and ensure 2SLGBTQ+ feel affirmed in their learning,” said Debbie Owusu-Akyeeah, executive director of the Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity.

Queen of Wheat tall cans are now available for purchase in Spearhead’s retail location or online to be shipped across Ontario at spearheadbeer.com.
