The Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity continues to be enraged by the systemic white supremacy, colonialism and cisheteropatriarchy that is prolific in Canada, the United States and around the world, including here on the unceded and unsurrendered Algonquin territorty where CCGSD offices are located.
Today we address the systematized white supremacist, colonial and cisheteropatriachal oppression of Black and Indigenous people and People of Colour in Canada and the United States.
We stand in solidarity with the racialized people and First Peoples within and outside of the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.
We recognize that the ongoing state-sanctioned and state-instigated violence is endemic, long-standing and a function of structural white supremacy, colonialism and cisheteropatriarchy.
We recognize that CCGSD was created within that structure and we will work to dismantle these inherited oppressive systems in our own organization.
We believe that the ingrained colonial systems in Canada, and around the world, are an exercise in oppression, discrimination and exploitation that threatens the lives of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities at home and globally.
As a not-for-profit charity committed to a world without discrimination, we will work to centre those at intersections of oppression in our education, advocacy and research. We are committed to anti-oppressive, anti-racist and decolonizing work. We will amplify the voices of the two-spirit people and queer and trans Indigenous peoples and people of colour in our work. We will continue to centre these important histories, herstories and theystories. We will centre these many ways of being, knowing and doing today and in the future.
The First Pride was a RIOT and we celebrate that riot every year. 2SLGBTQIA+ people are everyone and are everywhere. Individually, in our communities and as a movement, we call on ALL people who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+ to stand in solidarity with the civil rights movement happening today.
