Education:

Students with any level of education are welcome to apply for this position. Note, as part of the program, you must be returning to school, full-time, in September 2018 and between the ages of 15-30.

Experience:

Experience and/or knowledge working within LGBTQ2S, diversity community, human rights, social justice, community organizing, and events organizing.

Background & Mandate of the Organization:

The Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity (CCGSD) intersectionally promotes diversity in gender identity, gender expression, and romantic and/or sexual orientation in all its forms on a national level through services in the areas of education, health, and advocacy. Summary of Position:

The CCGSD is seeking four summer coordinators, to fulfill a variety of positions. We are looking to hire:

  • 1x Graphic Designer,
  • 1x Translator,
  • 2x LGBTQ2 History Researcher,
  • 2x Community Coordinator,
  • and 2x Two-Spirit Coordinators.

The 1x Graphic Designer will work to prepare materials for the 2018-2019 scholastic year, working on posters, conference booklets, and promotional materials. Should be familiar with Canva (design). 

New to this year, we will also be hiring for 1x Translator. This individual could be a student studying in both official languages at the post-secondary level, or a student of translation who is looking for more work experience. This position is for English to French translation.

Working as a  team, the 2x Community Coordinators will work to organize our activities for regional Pride festivals; Promote the CCGSD in Ottawa; conduct research; organize events for Proud City, and work to prepare the CCGSD for our 2018-2019 projects, including the International Day of Pink, and GSA Forum. 

There will also be 2x Two-Spirit Coordinators, who will work to support the community coordinators projects, to revitalize the CCGSD Two-Spirit campaign, and to conduct outreach for the proposed two-spirit space in the CCGSD Museum space.

Finally, the 2x LGBTQ2 History Researchers will work to fund raise, outreach, and promote for our new LGBTQ2+ Space. Secondary duties will include supporting general CCGSD projects, contributing towards our 2018 Ottawa pride events, and other tasks as assigned.

Potential Responsibilities:

  • Prepares a work plan with timelines, goals and activities, and monitors the progress throughout the duration of the program;
  • Prepares, monitors, and maintains a transparent budget for the program;
  • Responsible for logistics pertaining to the organizing projects and events;
  • Networking, cold-calling, and building relationships with LGBTQ+ service providers across Canada;
  • Create tools and surveys to identify the current work being done;
  • Monitor, track, evaluate and report on the progress of the program to the senior management team, staff and the CCGSD Board;
  • Liaise between the CCGSD and coalition/networks of LGBTQ+ service providers, to offer training, support, resources etc.;
  • Represents the CCGSD at sport inclusion partnerships, suppliers’ organizations, events and committees;
  • Develop and run promotional campaigns;
  • In addition, the successful candidate can expect to take on a range of other related duties as necessary, and to participate fully in the meetings and activities in the office as required by the Director and Senior Management Staff.

Skills & Abilities

Language

  • Proficiency in French is an asset;
  • Ability to write reports, correspondence, procedure manuals and proposals;
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from youth and service providers;

Computer

  • Knowledge of a variety of software programs and online platforms, which can include Dropbox, Google Drive, Gmail, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Evernote, Facebook, Twitter, teleconferencing, webinar etc. (training using these programs will be part of the orientation process);
  • Manage basic audio-visual and multi-media, as needed for workshops and program;
  • A willingness to learn new software and programs is a must.

Other

  • LGBTQ+ personal experiences;
  • Self-motivation and monitoring;
  • The ability to work with a variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • A driver’s license would be an asset;
  • ASIST training and any support work credentials/experience are an asset;
  • Anti-oppression training would be an asset.
