From December 13th-15th, Cameron and Jessica from the CCGSD traveled to Temiscaming Quebec to present workshops to the grades 2-11 classes of George Theberge School. We had a fabulous time and presented a series of Junior GRIS and GRIS workshops to the school and worked with several students and staff to improve school culture in relation to homophobia and transphobia. Our workshops worked to deconstruct notions the students held about gender and improved their ability to be accepting of folk who have different notions of sexuality and gender. To accomplish this goal, we relied on Cameron’s humor and singing abilities and Jessica’s educational and artistic capacities to make our message accessible for all age-ranges. We would like to specifically thank Catherine Robinson for her help in coordinating our trip and Cindy for her hospitality in boarding our staffers and we look forward to continuing our relationship with the staff and students of G. Theberge School.
