Leaping into full swing, Team Education visited four schools this week and manged to work with students and teachers to combat homophobia and transphobia. On Wednesday, Cameron and Rhube drove out to Goulbourn M.S. to present a final workshop exploring gender diversity and answered questions about accommodating queer students within broader communities. We had a blast and are pleased of the relationship Team Education has built this year with the staff at Goulbourn. On Thursday, Cameron and Nicole traveled to Woodroofe H.S. to present two consent and healthy relationship workshops, culminating with two GRIS presentations in the afternoon. They had a blast and were impressed by the persuasive power of cherry blasters on a room full of teenagers. Rhube went solo to Featherstone Elementary and had a full day of presenting workshops, which enabled him to cement a years worth of programming and solidify our relationship with this school. Finally, Cameron and Tamara went to Grant Alternative P.S. on Friday and presented our new Diverse Families workshop to a group of energetic and informed sixth graders. They had a blast deconstructing learned notions of gender and gender roles and would like to sincerely thank the staff at Grant Alternative for reaching out to the CCGSD. It has been busy month and we would like to thank all of our volunteers for their hard work!
