Statement on #Orlando

On behalf of the Canadian Centre for Gender & Sexual Diversity, we are outraged and saddened by the heterosexist & cissexist hate crime that was occurred in in Orlando on Sunday, June 12, 2106.

Our thoughts are with the victims of the Pulse Nightclub massacre, their loved ones, and any others affected by this senseless tragedy. This has been described as the worst mass-shooting in modern US history, and reflects the violence, discrimination and oppression that LGBTQ+ face daily in the US, Canada and all over the world.

Our team has been in touch with our partners at CenterLink (the US LGBT Center Association) and The Center (the LGBT Center for Central Florida and Orlando). We will be following their leads as  further details surrounding these events come to light, and we will work in solidarity with them.

Please follow us on Facebook & Twitter as we share updates on local Vigils and events in solidarity with the incident in Orlando.

Please join our team today at the Ottawa Candlelight Vigil for Pulse Nightclub Shooting // Une veillée pour les victimes du Pulse Nightclub at 6:30pm at the Human Rights Monument.
