In October 2011, two people took their own lives because of the bullying, harassment and discrimination they had faced in their lifetime. One was a young gay man from Ottawa and the other a middle-aged woman known to one of the song writers.
Our song “Stand Up and Live”, was written through tears.
The words flowed as though the writer was looking into the eyes of the person considering suicide and asking
them to know that someone was in their corner heading right to them… so please, Stand Up (just one more moment) and Live!
It took a year and a half to complete the musical arrangement, but here it is in French and English, as sung by Gatineau performer/singer Deneece.
“Stand Up and Live” is a song for the Soul with an R n’ B flow, meant to encourage those who have hit the walls of injustice and/or exhaustion (through bullying, harassment, discrimination, etc.) and spark movement forward to hope and endurance.
“Hope will find you again… take a step forward, ’cause someone is in your corner, heading right to you!”
