On Friday November 20th, also known as Trans Day of Remembrance, a contingent of CCGSD staff members and volunteers headed out for a day of workshops at Algonquin College, organized by the Algonquin Queer Students Association. We were pleased to be joined throughout the day by students, fellow activists, community members, and members of the Ottawa Paramedics. After an initial workshop on Two-Spirit identities that was concluded by smudging, our day of learning began and delved into issues surround “Passing”, the health needs of Trans folk and parenting Trans children. We were all able to learn from the day and had a chance to reflect on how to best utilize our new knowledge and skills when presenting workshops or planning conferences. Thank you again to the Algonquin QSA for organizing such an amazing day of workshops and raising money for KIND.
