PFLAG CANADA AND JER’S VISION IN A DYNAMIC ENDEAVOUR
OTTAWA – PFLAG Canada is delighted to announce the re-opening of our national office, now co-located with Jer’s Vision in Ottawa, and staffed under the volunteer management of Jeremy Dias, founder and executive director of Jer’s Vision.
The addition of Jeremy to PFLAG Canada’s board of directors has given us a person whose management skills and strong community presence will be called on to lead our Operations Portfolio. We are confidant that, as community partners, each of our organizations will be stronger and more able to carry out our common objectives.
Jer’s Vision is Canada’s Youth Diversity Initiative, working to eliminate bullying, homophobia, transphobia, and other forms of discrimination in schools and youth communities. PFLAG Canada is the national organization that helps all Canadians with issues of sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. Our collaboration, which is long-standing, is a natural and mutually-beneficial outcome of past shared activities and objectives.
“I am truly honoured to accept this incredible opportunity. Together, we will be building a stronger network of PFLAG Chapters that will support and serve members of the LGBT community and their allies across our country,” says Jeremy Dias. “I look forward to connecting with each Chapter to build safer communities from sea to sea to sea.”
“ And we look forward to a dynamic and meaningful alliance” adds Francine Proulx-Kenzle, President of PFLAG Canada. “We acknowledge and regret that our relationships in the national community may have suffered while we made adjustments. We have every confidence though, in our ability to achieve the same level of community service that existed when our national office was operating out of Moncton, NB, under the exemplary leadership of Executive Director Cherie Macleod. We’ve chosen a path that takes advantage of the willingness of volunteers to offer their professional skills in a generous fashion. It is something we have always counted on, and like most community-based organizations, we take strength from it. Expect great things.”
