Jeremy Dias Receives the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal
by the Hon. Yasir Naqvi
On Wednesday, April 10 at the Day of Pink Gala, Yasir Naqvi, MPP for Ottawa Centre presented Jeremy Dias with a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of his continued efforts to promote values of acceptance and inclusiveness, and foster relationships between the LGBTQ and straight communities.
As a teen, Jeremy was bullied and harassed for being gay and a visible minority. He showed courage and leadership by facing this discrimination head-on, and used this experience to make the world a better place for youth facing similar circumstances.
This led to the creation of Jer’s Vision; a youth-led organization dedicated to promoting values of acceptance and inclusiveness in our communities, and the Day of Pink which unites people of all ages and backgrounds to stand up against homophobic and transphobic bullying. As a result of the hard work of Jeremy and his team, the organization is considered an anti-bullying leader in Canada and around the world.
Jeremy works diligently to build bridges between people of all backgrounds, and is committed to raising awareness to stop bullying of any kind. He is not afraid to challenge discriminatory policies, and celebrates others who exemplify values of tolerance and acceptance in their own achievements through the provision of scholarships and awards. Jeremy has made a tremendous contribution to the well-being of our community, helping youth to feel supported, loved and encouraged.
“I am honoured to have the opportunity to recognize Jeremy with this prestigious medal. He continues to demonstrate the kind of compassion and courage that should serve as inspiration to us all.”
– Yasir Naqvi, MPP Ottawa Centre
“I am so grateful for this honor, however the award belongs to the whole team at JersVision.org and the Day of Pink. Every day we are in schools making things safer with amazing educators, community partners and parents. Thank you all for wearing PiNK–You are HEROS.”

- Ontario is celebrating Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne 60 years ago, by awarding 2,000 outstanding Canadians with a Diamond Jubilee Medal.
- Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s reign of 60 years is the second-longest for a British monarch; only Queen Victoria has reigned longer.
