As wrap-up for the Third Annual Gender and Sexuality Alliance Forum comes to a close I, as Forum Coordinator, finally have the time and space to reflect upon the truly incredible space of learning, sharing, networking, and healing that our Forum Participants and Youth Mentors were able to create this year and that we, as staff, had the privilege to facilitate. Most excitingly, this was the first year that the GSA Forum was a truly national event with Participants travelling from as far away as Victoria, Mount Pearl, Kuujjuaq, Cape Breton, Dawson City, and Atikokan. Every province and all but the Northwest Territories were represented at the Forum this year thanks to a travel grant from the Department of Canadian Heritage, Youth Exchanges – Youth Forums of Canada Program! We look forward to being able to continue this level of national accessibility in years to come.
Bringing different perspectives and experiences our Participants this year were keen and eager learners that enthusiastically engaged with all the material and strove to connect with and teach each other as well. The Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity looks forward to hearing about all the wonderful initiatives that students craft in their local schools and communities–including Scouts Canada which sent two youth representatives!
Thank-you to everyone who made this event possible, please take a look at the 2016 Final Report which is now available as well as this amazing #GSAForum2016 video!
