Member of Parliament for Scarborough Southwest, Dan Harris is inviting all schools within the area to participate in our first ‘Celebrate Originality’ International Day of Pink contest!

In collaboration with Jer’s Vision, we are looking to celebrate this year’s Day of Pink in a big way. Jer’s Vision is a youth led organization that works to address bullying and discrimination here in Canada and around the world. The message of Jer’s Vision and the Day of Pink is simple and clear: anyone can bully, anyone can be victimized by bullying, but together we can stop it.

Classes from elementary and high schools across Scarborough Southwest are asked to celebrate the International Day of Pink on April 11th  – but, how your class chooses to celebrate is up to you! The Day of Pink looks to celebrate diversity and originality, so Dan Harris is asking you and your students to showcase your creativity and imagination with original, unique celebrations on this special day. The class with most innovative, outstanding and (most importantly) fun celebration plans will be joined by Dan Harris on April 11th, as well as win a free pizza party with Dan.

Classes are asked to submit their plans for their unique International Day of Pink celebration todan.harris.c1@parl.gc.ca by Monday April 2, 2012 for consideration. The winning class will be contacted onThursday April 5, 2012. On April 11th, the International Day of Pink, Dan Harris will join the winning class and participate in their celebration, as well as provide a free pizza party to the students of that class.

All classes that participate in this contest are encouraged to take pictures, create videos or submit artwork (depending on what you choose to do) from their celebration by Friday April 13, 2012 to be shared with our friends at Jer’s Vision, as well as to be included on Dan’s Facebook page, Twitter feed, website, and to be showcased in our constituency office.

SUBMISSIONS: Submissions must be made by individual classes from elementary or high schools within the Scarborough Southwest riding. More than one class from one school can apply. We also encourage classes that are participating to register on the Day of Pink website to be entered in their contest as well.

Submissions must include the following:

Name of School
Name of School Principal and their contact information (email & phone number)
Name of Teacher whose class is participating and their contact information (email & phone number)
Grade of class participating and number of students
Description of planned activity and why Dan should attend your class celebration (please do not exceed 500 words)

If your school is interested in participating or you would like more information about the Day of Pink and Jer’s Vision, please contact Candace Jazvac at (416) 261-8613 or by email atdan.harris.c1@parl.gc.ca. Also, if your school is already planning Day of Pink activities, please let us know so that we can incorporate your plans into our Day of Pink extravaganza, and so that Dan can attend!
