Laugh Out Proud IX

Laugh Out Proud IX

August 22-24 is excited to partner with Yuk Yuk’s Comedy Club to present our 9th annual showcase of fabulous Canadian and International comedy by the best GLBTTQ comedians. Our 2013 edition will feature Winnipeg’s Trevor Boris.

Boris is one of the stars of MuchMusic‘s Video on Trial, and is also a star of Stars Gone Wild. Boris recently had his very own Comedy Now! standup special air on CTV and The Comedy Network, was the runner-up in the 2006 Great Canadian Laugh Off  that aired on The Comedy Network, and was the host of the same-sex wedding show I Now Pronounce You… on OUTtv. He has been nominated twice for the “Best Stand-up Newcomer” Canadian Comedy Award, and has performed at the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival, as well as the CBC Winnipeg, Halifax, and Vancouver Comedy Festivals and at the 2006 Cape Town Comedy Festival in South Africa.

Trevor also recently appeared on the Conan O’Brien show.

Joining Trevor on the show will be transplanted Canadian comic Sabrina Jalees now living in New York City.

The daughter of a Swiss mother and a Pakistani father, Jalees graduated from Earl Haig Secondary School, and later from the Radio and Television Arts program at Ryerson University in June 2007. Jalees is out as a lesbian. She has stated that she was shunned by her extended Muslim family after coming out, an experience she relates in her 2013 Canadian comedy tour, “Brownlisted.”

Jalees currently hosts Laugh Out Loud on CBC Radio One and a reality TV show for children, In Real Life, airing on YTV. She made a cameo in the video for Break This by Hunter Valentine.

Rounding out the bill is Ottawa’s own Martha Chaves.  Martha has an impressive 20 year career in corporate and club shows across Canada. Originally from Nicaragua this articulate fireball speaks 5 languages fluently and is a big draw on her own at Yuk Yuk’s clubs coast to coast.
