On behalf of Jer’s Vision, our board, committees and volunteers, we would like to express our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Mr Jack Layton.
A true visionary, Mr Layton helped launch Jer’s Vision at our inaugural gala 6 years ago. The Gala was being held on Saturday, October 16, at a bar in downtown Ottawa. Jack was speaking at the NDP convention being held in Ottawa at the same time, but snuck away from his duties to launch Jer’s Vision. At the time, Jer’s Vision was only a scholarship foundation, and Mr Layton’s attendance was one of the many surprises of the evening.
He said that the work we all do to make our communities a better place is not like jumping a hurdle, there is no start, middle and end, but rather it is an ongoing process, a way of life.
As a tribute to him, youth at Jer’s Vision have created a series of buttons. Get your free Jack Layton button at the Ottawa Pride, the Jer’s Vision Office, or by emailing: Info@JersVision.org. Member of Jer’s Vision will be wearing the buttons for the next 2 weeks in rememberance.
His memory will live on in the work we do. We will remember that: “Love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optismism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.”-Jack Layton
