This year has truly been incredible for the team at Jer’s Vision.
During this holiday season, as we get ready for 2012, we would like to wish you and your family a Happy Holidays, and Joyous New Year, on behalf of all of us at Jer’s Vision (and the International Day of Pink).
It has been an incredibly productive year; our team spoke to over 60,000 youth and adults about how to address homophobia, transphobia, bullying and discrimination in their schools and communities. In every province and territory, Jer’s Vision volunteers educated, engaged and supported youth who are making our classrooms and neighborhoods safer.
As we are already in the 2011-2012 scholastic year, we are pleased to report that workshops and presentations have been booked in regions across Canada, and we expect to reach even more students than ever before.
Some of the highlights include:
–11 Dare to Stand Out Conferences in 7 regions in Canada. The Dare to Stand Out program is a national series that engages and supports over 6000 youth in stopping homophobia, transphobia, bullying and discrimination in their schools and communities
–A new office and more team members. With the addition of additional office space and new volunteers, we are able to double our capacity to do engage youth in conversations of diversity in our schools, thereby addressing the increasing demands for programming. This year we expect to reach over 70,000 youth.
–Day of Pink (April 11, 2012). Our team is geared up for the Day of Pink 2012 and we anticipate over 7 million participants. What will you be wearing? Sign up; get shirts & resources at DayOfPink.org.
–National Recognition and Awards for our work. Our team has been recognized by: the Ontario Attorney General’s Victim Service Award, Durham Pride’s National Award, GLISA North America’s Human Rights Award, PFLAG Brockville’s Role Model Award and becoming a Queer Hall of Fame inductee.
It is an honour to work to make our community a better place, and we would like to thank for your continued support. Best wishes during the season and into the New Year.
