National Capital Region: Youth Leadership (Ottawa)

Dare to Stand Out is a series of national conferences, brought to you by Jer’s Vision, that work with youth to address issues surrounding homophobia and transphobia in their schools and communities.

Dare to Stand Out: Youth Leadership is a youth-run event that will be taking place Oct 19 at Albert Street Educational Centre in Ottawa, ON, beginning at 9:30am. We invite youth from Ottawa, and surrounding areas, to join us for a day of addressing current issues concerning the climate of Ontario’s school boards and how that affects extra-curricular activities, as well as how the youth can organize and lead in their own schools and communities. Workshops will cover topics on how to start their own groups in schools, as well as how to make their academic spaces safer and more inclusive for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, genderqueer, gender-variant, and queer youth. Our keynote speakers will be youth leaders who have started their own GSAs and have made valuable contributions to making their communities safer.

Note: This conference will be taking place concurrently with Jer’s Vision’s Francophone Conference.
