We are pleased to announce that The Rainbow Resource Centre will be hosting the 3rd Annual Manitoba GSA Conference on November 25th, 2013 at the Victoria Inn. This conference is for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Two-Spirit, Queer, Questioning and Allied (LGBTTQQA*) youth, as well as Educators and Youth Service Providers!
Junior High and High Schools from across Manitoba and North Western Ontario are invited to join us for a day of learning, skill building, discussions, fun and networking! StandOUT! is an adult facilitated and peer-led leadership conference aimed at supporting youth in taking an active role in creating school environments free from discrimination based on sexual orientation,
gender expression and gender identity.
A wide variety of powerful youth-focused workshops will be offered that are specifically related to Gay/Straight Alliances and other LGBTTQIA* youth issues. Schools who do not already have a GSA or LGBTTQIA* inclusive student group are also welcome to come.
A separate stream for Educators and Youth Service Providers will be offered that will include relevant, current and specific information aimed to provide skills and tools needed to support LGBTTQIA* youth in a school environment. This will include the very popular ALLY training, Gender Identity Awareness training and other optional special-focus sessions related to feedback received from previous years. This will include information on how to communicate with opposition and how to work together to create an safer, inclusive school environment!
Approximately 350 students and 100 Educators/Youth Service Providers will take part in the learning. 7 students and 2 Educators/Youth Service Providers are invited to attend FREE OF CHARGE ! More spaces are available for additional Educators/Youth Service
Providers to attend at a cost.
