My name is Amit Khanna, and I would like to invite you to YOUnique Ties, a fundraiser for Jer’s Vision on May 11, 2012 at 8:30pm at The Richmond (477 Richmond St W, at Spadina—Toronto, Ontario). Get your ticket here!
As a former teacher in both Ontario and Turkey, I unfortunately witnessed a lot of bullying. Always doing my best to improve the situation, I worked hard to prevent and address incidents, but I wanted to do more.
So this year, as I am turning 30, I thought I could give back to my community and fundraise for this very important cause. After a lot of thought and research I learned about Jer’s Vision, an organization working across Canada including in communities that do not have dialogues on homophobic and transphobic bullying. Inspired by the organization, I share their belief that education is the key, and through these kinds of initiatives we can make real differences in the lives of many.
As a result, I started changED-“Education for change” as an avenue through which to inspire change through education, and that is how the fundraiser YOUnique Ties was born.
YOUnique Ties is an evening to raise awareness of the effects of bullying and discrimination by celebrating our unique sexual & gender diversity, cultural & social differences. It is also the official launch party for The International Day Against Homophobia & Transphobia here in Toronto.
All proceeds will be going to Jer’s Vision to help them continue their continue his great work. We hope that you can join us for a night of comedy, celebrities, drinks, and dancing!
I can’t wait to see you all there and party all night, while supporting a great cause!
PS-Show off your creative, unique, funky flair with a neck tie, bow tie, hair tie, or scarf—prizes for the best!
