FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: National Coming Out Day is on October 11th and it’s getting a new slogan for 2013; Closets are for Clothes.
This empowering slogan and sentiment is being championed by the not-for-profit activist group; The Heterosexuals for Same-Sex Equality. www.StraightNotNarrow.ca
The HSSE has various exciting initiatives underway; an original song, professional photography, a variety show, a tent-pole Facebook event and leading the charge is a saucy and inclusive short film.
THE FILM: Following in the footsteps of their 2011 viral success; Are You A Man? this new video entitled: Closets are for Clothes, takes a bolder, lighter and more risqué approach. Co-produced by Derek Forgie and Jesse Rae West, men and women of all shapes, sizes, ethnicities, and walks of life are casting off their clothing and tossing it into the literal closet. This is not your ordinary group of exhibitionists; this is a collection of decorated and accomplished supporters. Philip Tetro (1Girl 5 Gays), Kim Crosby (The Human Project), Liana Kerzner (1010 Talk, Ed The Sock) Belle Jumelles (The Toronto Burlesque Festival) and Comedians; Dave Merheje, Troy Stark, Inessa Frantowski, Aisha Alfa, Chris Brazeau, round out this eclectic collection of supporters.
Providing the soundtrack for this impressive cast to disrobe to, is local singer/songwriter Collette Savard. She along with producer John Zytaruk and wrote an original song called: Come Out To Play specifically for this project. The film was shot at the Who Do You Love Photography studio.
THE PHOTOGRAPHY: To accompany our video, the HSSE has recruited some decorated photographers to snap their imaginative take on what the phrase Closets are for Clothes means to them. Dan Abramovici Photography, Sean Ryan Images, Ashlea Wessel, and Photolena, are all on board to lend their skilled creative eye to the campaign.
THE EVENT: The closet doors are flung open and it all comes to a stirring climax on October 11th at 7:00pm for a very special: Make Me One With Everything! What’s MMOWE? It’s the HSSE’s semi-annual variety show that boasts 6 acts/6 genres. This time, acts include: Jamie O’Connor (stand-up) , Lukas Stark (magic) Blues & Trouble (music), Veronika Swartz (character), Kenikie Street (burlesque) and Kitty Kerosene (sideshow). Hosted by Chris Brazeau.
At the conclusion of this exhilarating hour, it will transform into the official Closets are for Clothes Wrap Party. Flying Beaver Pubaret. 7:00pm. 488 Parliament.
THE HISTORY: On October 11, 1987, half a million people participated in the March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights. It was the second such demonstration in the United States’ capital and resulted in the founding of a number of LGBT organizations. From this idea National Coming Out Day was born and is now an Internationally observed civil awareness day.
