Background & Mandate of the Organization: The Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity (CCGSD) intersectionally promotes diversity in gender identity, gender expression, and romantic and/or sexual orientation in all its forms on a national level through services in the areas of education, health, and advocacy. Our resources and programming can be used to uplift gender and sexual minorities, as well as give the tools to wider populations in building allyship. Summary of Position

The CCGSD is seeking 3 new volunteers (with financial, legal and fundraising skills)  full members of the Board of Directors. This Director will be asked to attend at least 1 (one) meeting per month, more when committee meetings are deemed necessary. Additionally, this Director will lend their expertise to the Executive Director and the Board when asked (and able).

We are seeking candidates who are willing to make a minimum 3 (three) year commitment. Directors at the CCGSD are automatically appointed as Members of the Corporation at the CCGSD.

Director Responsibilities

Directors are voting members of the Board of Directors and are jointly responsible for the governance of CCGSD. More specifically this includes determining and monitoring the mission, mandate and values CCGSD; ensuring services satisfy the mission, mandate and values of CCGSD; approving and monitoring CCGSD’s strategic directions; ensuring the finances of CCGSD are handled responsibly; and ensuring CCGSD meets all of its legal obligations.

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Understand and demonstrate a commitment to the organization’s mission and programs
  2. Keep up to date with issues and trends that affect the organization
  3. Prepare for meetings by reading agendas, minutes, reports and other documentation required to actively participate in them
  4. Attend meetings regularly
  5. Contribute skills and knowledge by participating actively in meetings and committee work
  6. Make inquiries when clarification or more information is needed
  7. Understand and monitor the organization’s financial affairs
  8. Avoid any potential conflicts of interest
  9. Understand and maintain confidentiality
  10. Ensure the organization is complying with all legal and regulatory requirements
  11. Participate in Board Committees as required
  12. Appoints, evaluates and terminates the Executive Director


  • Over 18 years of age
  • Does not have a bankruptcy status
  • Communications/Fundraising/Social Science education or a combination of education and experience
  • Experience fundraising for non-profits, in any combination of grant writing, sponsorship solicitation, capital campaigns, direct mail, donor solicitation
  • Knowledge of non-profit governance
  • Skills to work collaboratively with other board members, senior management and other stakeholders
  • Proficiency in French is an asset
  • LGBTQ+ personal experience is an asset
