An update from Loresa

Hello everyone!  It’s Loresa the senior office manager at Jer’s Vision, and I would like to give you an update on what we have been doing this last month  here at Jer’s vision

The planning for the Dare to Stand Out: A National Hepatitis C Forum is underway.  We are working with some exciting presenters from all across Canada, and we are connecting with schools and organizations to find youth to come to Ottawa for the four day forum.   If you think you have what it takes, check out this link to apply http://jersvision.org/en/programs/dare-stand-out-national-hepatitis-c-forum

Jer’s Vision was invited  to a focus group hosted by PREVNet which is a National network of Canadian researchers, non-governmental organizations, and governments committed to stop bullying.  The focus group was to discuss a new six module training program for organizations that offer programming for youth.  Jer’s Vision was there to ensure that GLBT’s youth voices were heard and represented

Staff from Jer’s Vision prepared statements in support of the Accepting Schools Act (Bill 13) to present at the public hearing in Ottawa on May 22.  We were there to represent the thousands of youth who signed a petition to support Bill 13 from all across Ontario.  We needed to be the voice for the many youth who want to feel safe in their schools. We later were present at a press release hosted by Ottawa Centre MPP, Yasir Naqvi .

Also, our co-op students were working on the International Day of Pink for 2013. Currently they are connecting with public officials, and other influential people for their inspiring messages for youth to be shared throughout the year!

In honour of the Queen’s Jubilee Jer’s Vision was the recipient of a special grant which allowed Faye to plan a field trip for students in the Ottawa Carleton District School Board which focused on diversity and multiculturalism. In addition, our educators Mel and Shannon have been to schools all over Eastern Ontario to educate youth on the consequences of their actions and to stop bullying.

This has been quite a productive month for all of us here at Jer’s Vision.  We are looking forward to the next adventures in June!

Thanks!
