65th ANNIVERSARY OF THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS, 10 December 1948 – 10 December 2013
65 years ago today, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly. The Declaration arose from the experience of the Second World War and represents the first global expression of rights to which all human beings are inherently entitled.
In the UDHR, the world holds one of its most valuable instruments to work for better standards of life in larger freedom for all humanity. A lot of progress has been made in these past 65 years. At the same time, it remains important to keep promoting respect for fundamental human rights, the dignity and worth of every human being and equal rights of men and women.
